Since my childhood, art has been my lifelong passion and the primary way I express my convictions. As a black artist based in Dallas, Texas, I take immense pride in my culture and feel incredibly grateful for the gift of creativity and the ability to create. My artistic repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum, ranging from biblical art to abstract expressions. I set forth to challenge stereotypes, provoke thought, and to inspire.

Demetri
DEMETRI M. COTTON
Dallas based artist, Demetri Cotton has a unique way of blending his theological background with him speaking through his art, from his abstracts to what he calls his social consciousness pieces. Demetri is a native of Forth Worth Texas, whose love for art was incubated at the young age of six, by his mother who was taking art classes through the mail. He studied her books. This all lead to him pursing his dream and desire of being an artist. After graduating as an art major from East Texas State University, Demetri taught high school art for 30 successful years in the Dallas Independent School District. During this time he also received a Masters Degree in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary and currently has served for over twenty years as pastor of a church in Dallas.
Demetri’s retirement from teaching has allowed him to produce art more prolifically. As a consummate communicator, pastor, teacher and educator, Demetri’s art speaks as well.
Influenced by the strong graphic shapes of American abstract expressionist painter, Franz Kline, Demetri’s abstracts incorporate colorful free form shapes that flow in a chaotic but orchestrated movement. He makes use of colored tissue paper and its translucency that is further enhanced by bold black lines and acrylic paint to complete the movement of the piece.
